Since Monet's visits to London in the 1880's, the aesthetic qualities of a cityscape have been widely explored on canvas. Monet was attracted to the vivid sunsets contrasting against the filthy architecture of a city at an industrial age. What made the sunsets so beautiful? The vapours and pollution typical of 1880's London enhanced the colours of a sunset spectacularly, and the cities of today are often no exception. The Czech Republic's River Vltava in Prague is featured in the canavs work on the right from Nick Hallard's own collection, and is available to buy.
