Ye Olde House At Home, West Sussex - premises to be proud of Ye Olde House At Home
is about as traditional as English Inns get, and rightly, they are proud of their building. Photorealism is not always needed on an eyebright inn sign, but in the case of a portrait of a famous person or
architectural realisation of the building itself, an excellent eye and solid grounding in modern painting techniques is key. The joy of not using a real photograph on vinyl sheeting is illustrated by this eyebright
inn sign. An unsightly block of flats is 'knocked back' and painted so as to enhance the delightful appearance of the pub, and not make the scene on the sign unsightly. (below left)
Ye Olde House At Home in West Sussex wanted an image of the pub itself on their pictorial sign. Hand painting not only gives a traditional feel to the sign, it also allows unsightly details to be made more subtle, or in the case of the table umbrellas, removed altogether
